has I sat and watched the obama stump speech today, I could not but wonder what kind of stimulus bill we are in store for?
As bits and piece trickle out about what is in the bill, and he has continued to defent the idea that not ear marks are in this massive spending bill. Could someone please tell me what the dems and the president would define "ear marks" as being?
Then when he was talking, I could not help to wonder about the timing of the release of the money. At one point someone brought up American jobs being shipped over seas. He responded with re training and educations, in high schools and colleges and even re training unemployed individuals. Is it me, but what he is preposing takes years, not days or months, but years.
He also talked about renewable energy. Problem, Indiana is the back drop for coal like Illinois. I guess all those union coal miners do not count? Next how are you suppose to creat jobs with renewable energy in the near future? It only helps put money in the pockets of those that have the technology. If you are selling energy back to the state, does it not cost jobs at the power plants? The plants are going to have to cut jobs to fund the pay backs for renewable energy....
If it does create jobs, it is a spacific field, not a wide field. Meaning college jobs, sounds like he is pandering to the teachers unions at the Universities?
Next, it seems to me that all the jobs he was talking about creating would be union jobs; teachers, construction, transportation. He continued to talk about giving monies to the states, which is fine, but who is to say the states are going to use the money that way. After all dont they already tax us on gas for the roads anyway? Where is that money going?
The he talked about rebuilding schools, union jobs once again. Yet cities like St. Louis are shutting down schools, because of student drop out rates. The schools are under funded because the students quit going and the schools dont get paid if there is no students.
Am I the only one to see the problem here.....
